Emotional and Behavioral-Health First Aid for Trauma Responders and Clients

April 24 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

Emotional and Behavioral-Health First Aid for Trauma Responders and Clients

Certainly, we know to put a bandage or a tourniquet or a gaping wound or cut, and to treat it with antibiotics to keep infection out, right? No questions asked. In fact, questions would be asked if we didn’t apply first aid when necessary. So why isn’t the same true for our trauma-related emotional health? Some believe they are expected to just “get over” psychological wounds —when as anyone who’s ever ruminated over rejection or agonized over past trauma knows only too well, emotional injuries can be even more crippling than physical ones. And in the case of domestic violence, our clients are often saddled with both emotional and physical trauma pains.

During this training we will practice emotional first aid on ourselves, other attendees and learn methods to assist our clients and others in need due to trauma. We will focus on assisting others who may be having a panic attack, suffering from debilitating depression, contemplating self-harm, substance use and even suicide — while at the same time practicing safe boundaries for the safety of everyone.

In order to make this training most effective, you are encouraged to invite partners in your community to the training that you wish to work closer with, therefore, creating a cross-training learning experience. Like the earlier sessions, this quarterly training will be a three-hour session with a workbook, handouts, charts, and screening ideas. Additionally, this interactive session will include, a short lecture session, a video, group work, practice activities, and time to process.

Since these trainings have been certified by the Indiana Professionals Bureau, we will be handing out three CEU’s free of charge. Please use this fact as a draw for persons you are attempting to draw closer to your agency, for needed information please feel free to email CGAFF@INDY.RR.COM or call 317-441-5263 or (317) 259-4915

Facilitated by Carla Gaff-Clark, Ed.D., LMHC, LCAC (ICADV Trainer). Hosted by Hoosier Hills Pact.
