Abortion Access Resources

This week Indiana legislators released draft legislation that would prohibit abortion, except in cases of extreme risk to the mother’s health, and for pregnancies resulting from rape or incest. The Indiana Coalition Against Domestic Violence opposes the General Assembly’s action to severely restrict women’s reproductive health rights. We stand for reproductive rights because reproductive abuse and coercion are tools of violence many abusers use to weaponize a partner’s bodily autonomy and reproductive choices to maintain domestic violence relationships.

On Monday, July 25, 2022 the Indiana General Assembly will hold a special session to address abortion for Hoosier women across the state. The General Assembly has limited testimony on this critical issue to one 8-hour day, and it’s critical for state lawmakers to hear from their constituents on this issue in the next few days. There are many ways that you can advocate in support of reproductive rights. We urge you to use the resources below to contact your legislators TODAY and ask that they take action by considering all survivors in their response to the Supreme Court’s Dobbs decision.

Abortion services are essential healthcare and having equal access—for all people, everywhere—is vital to social and economic participation, reproductive autonomy, and the right to determine their own lives. State bans and restrictions will be devastating for low-income survivors, survivors of color, survivors with disabilities, and others who already face substantial barriers to accessing the healthcare they need.

For domestic violence survivors experiencing reproductive coercion and birth control sabotage, abortion access is a fundamental matter of safety. We know that women’s rights to make fundamental decisions about their bodies and health are integrally connected to their ability to have autonomy in their relationships. Justice and equality can only be achieved when all people have the social, political, and economic power to make decisions about their own health, bodies, and sexuality. Use the resources below to reach out to your legislators and urge them to stand WITH US as they make their decision during Monday’s session.
