When it comes to intimate partner violence, we often think about it in a stereotypical gendered context. Often, we remedy this by swapping out “he and she” for ‘they’ to affirm that IPV can occur in all types of relationships and communities. But, we also know that abusive tactics can look very different from one relationship to the next. And that individual needs, barriers, and personalities can heavily influence what those behaviors look like. So, let’s take a look at the specific and unique ways that power and control show up for the LGBTQ+ community.
Join ICADV’s training coordinator, Nicole Blackburn to unpack data on IPV in the LGBTQ+ community, discuss specific abusive tactics and additional barriers facing the community, and generate strategies for supporting them.
Please note that you do not need an extensive knowledge of LGBTQ+ terms or experiences to participate; but we will not spend much time defining these terms in the webinar. If any questions come up about terms or phrases being used; please ask!
