After more than a decade serving Marshall County, Heminger House has closed due to rising costs and financial strain.
“We are seeing this trend in many non-profit shelters serving small towns around our state and the country,” said Laura Berry, executive director of the Indiana Coalition Against Domestic Violence. “The rising costs of running a residential facility are often outweighing the financial support the program receives from the community.”
ICADV is currently working with its member domestic violence programs to re-evaluate how to best provide survivors around the state with services they need in an efficient and cost-effective way.
Current clients will be relocated to nearby shelters. Residents of Marshall County in need of services related to intimate partner violence are encouraged to call ICADV’s 24-hour statewide hotline at 1.800.332.7385 or Connect2Help at 211 to be referred to the appropriate programs and resources.
