Legally Brief: What You KNOW Could Protect You. Know Your Rights!

Did you know that law enforcement officers are mandated to respond to situations of violence in specific ways? They are. Indiana law is pretty darn clear when it states that not only MUST responding officers use reasonable means to prevent further violence (such as transporting victims safely, allowing victims to remove necessary personal effects, and confiscating and removing firearms in dangerous situations) but the MUST inform the victim of their RIGHTS under Indiana Law by giving them a Notice of Victim Rights.

We’ve added the updated 2018 Victim Rights to our website, under resources, or you can click this link:  2018 Victim Rights Notice. This is a helpful resource for law enforcement, advocates, stakeholders, and survivors to KNOW THEIR RIGHTS under Indiana Law.
