SUMMARY:Supporting Survivors with Disabilities
DESCRIPTION:Individuals with disabilities experience significantly higher rates of violence than their non-disabled counterparts. Yet\, many service providers do not feel equipped to provide adequate services or even to identify the barriers that prevent these survivors from accessing supportive services. In this webinar\, we will discuss the specific tactics of abuse survivors with disabilities experience\, the barriers they face when seeking safety\, and strategies for supporting survivors.

SUMMARY:Intimate Partner Violence & Substance Abuse
DESCRIPTION:What role does substance abuse play in the issue of substance abuse? Is it a risk factor for perpetrating or experiencing abuse? An indicator of lethality? A common impact and coping mechanism for survivors? The short answer to all these questions is “yes”. Substance abuse and intimate partner violence have a complex relationship and it’s important for service providers to understand it in order to be the best resource for survivors they can be. In this webinar\, we will explore how substance abuse is related to risk of perpetration and lethality\, tactics of abuse specifically related to substance abuse\, and strategies for supporting survivors experiencing issues related to substance use and abuse.

SUMMARY:Dimensions of IPV: Supporting LGBTQ+ Survivors
DESCRIPTION:When it comes to intimate partner violence\, we often think about it in a stereotypical gendered context. Often\, we remedy this by swapping out “he and she” for ‘they’ to affirm that IPV can occur in all types of relationships and communities. But\, we also know that abusive tactics can look very different from one relationship to the next. And that individual needs\, barriers\, and personalities can heavily influence what those behaviors look like. So\, let’s take a look at the specific and unique ways that power and control show up for the LGBTQ+ community. \nJoin ICADV’s training coordinator\, Nicole Blackburn to unpack data on IPV in the LGBTQ+ community\, discuss specific abusive tactics and additional barriers facing the community\, and generate strategies for supporting them.  \nPlease note that you do not need an extensive knowledge of LGBTQ+ terms or experiences to participate; but we will not spend much time defining these terms in the webinar. If any questions come up about terms or phrases being used; please ask!

SUMMARY:Tech Safety: Increasing Account & Device Security
DESCRIPTION:One of the common safety planning recommendations is to update privacy settings and secure accounts. But how should advocates and survivors go about this? Is there an order of operations to follow? Is there anything more we can do? In this webinar\, we will take a closer look at the processes for improving privacy and security in the digital world from passwords and 2-factor authentication to VPN’s.  \nAll levels of tech skills are welcome!
